MASH’s first annual Lift For Life
competition was a success. On Saturday March 5, a total of 25 teams participated in the event organized by Mr. Shirley, Mr.
Lougee and Mr. Ramirez. 23
teams were made up of students, from Mechanicsburg, Boiling Springs, West Perry,
and Bermudian Springs, and the other 2 teams consisted of teachers.
That’s 92 students who lifted in the competition, but that does not
include those students, teachers, and community members who volunteered and
helped out during the event.
Former and current Penn State football
players Ryan Scott, John Bronson, Dave Costlow and Scott Shirley, Mr.
Shirley’s son, were also at MASH to help out with the event, which
originated at Penn State University.
Participants raised over $5,500 of
donations from businesses and neighbors throughout their communities.
The top fundraiser was Fr. Warren Eslinger who raised $375.00.
Sr. Mary Kucek came in second with $250.00. The
senior girls team of Abbey Barron, Marissa Preston, Lyndi Keiser, and
Amy Gurreri won first place out of 5 girls’ teams, and Hersh and Co., a
team from Bermudian Springs won first out of 18 guys’ teams.
Lift For Life was very successful is raising
money for the Kidney Cancer Association. MASH
hopes to continue this fundraiser and raise even more money in the years to
come.
