Another Win for the Cats
"The year of the Wildcat is holding true for one more Mechanicsburg team. The Wildcat baseball team took the division, beating last season’s co-champions CV and Chambersburg.
Mechanicsburg was led by a veteran group. Juniors Jerry McKeon and Troy Reed both had excellent batting seasons. Seniors Dan Law, Brad Kirk, Ammon Peffley, and Rick Stoner also contributed with batting averages of .300 or better.
Senior Brad Kirk matched one of Shawn and Ben Abner’s feats by hitting one over the 375 mark in left field at Memorial Park. The Cats looked impressive beating Chambersburg twice this season, which hasn’t happened since 1983.
The Cats’ defense was there when the pitching called for it and the Cats’ bench was strong with Juniors Todd Duffie, Scott Burns, Scott Howard, and Brian Hollister doing the job when coach Shirley gave them the call.
The pitching was superb with Junior Jason Albert leading the team with a 1.19 ERA. Juniors Scott Burns, Jeff Costello and Senior Mark Duffie wound up the rotation while Senior Chris Hakel wrapped things up in the bullpen.
We congratulate the fine season and thank all who made it a success. The playoffs look very good and plan to do well. Great season!!!"
