Jim Young of Mechanicsburg pitched the first no-hitter of the season in
the West Shore League yesterday as Mechanicsburg blanked Red Land by a 2 – 0
margin. The senior righthander struck out eleven and walked only
three in his masterpiece. His
pitches included a fastball, curve, and change-up to his catcher, Steve Fish.
Young, who now owns a 3 – 0 record for the unbeaten Wildcats, was in
trouble only once during the outing. It
came in the sixth inning when Red Land loaded the bases, but Young pitched out
of it.
(Note:
The opposing pitcher that day was Greg Gross who had an outstanding major
league career. Gross also once
pitched a no-hitter against Mechanicsburg.)
