The beginning....

M-BURG BASEBALL TEAM SEEN AS STRONG IN ‘68 SEASON

Consistent excellence is the trademark of Mechanicsburg baseball. For the past two consecutive seasons, Wildcat teams have won or tied for the West Shore League baseball championship. Their cumulative record for two years is 19 wins and 3 losses.

This year promises another championship. The team is strengthened by veteran stars and supplemented by talented underclassmen. It boosts a seasoned pitching staff and statistically some of the best hitters in the league.

Head coach, Mr. Sassaman, says, "This year’s team will be as good as the players want it to be. We have a lot of potential, but that isn’t enough; you have to use the potential to be a winner."

Returning lettermen include Vern Beitzel, Dick Deardorff, Scott Houser, Steve Lowe, Mike O’Keefe, Jim Paull, Bob Renard, and Dave Sauve. No starting lineup is available, but these veterans will probably form the nucleus of the team.

The end ....

Top Positions Won By Baseball Team

The baseball team, under Mr. "Cat’s Eye" Sassaman, has snatched the first place title for Mechanicsburg with nine wins and one loss.

The baseball team has had a fine record for the past three years with these titles: 1966 - West Shore League Co-Champions with Cedar Cliff, 1967 - West Shore League Champs, and 1968 - West Shore League Champs. Continued good luck in baseball is the goal of the team.
