Seibert replaces Davis as Coach;

Record shows outstanding accomplishments

                Replacing Mr. James Davis as head coach is Mr. Donald Seibert, who is also head basketball coach. Mr. Seiebrt came to Mechanicsburg from Boiling Springs in 1949. As coach of three major sports there, he compiled an impressive record, taking top honors in 1948, and winning the league championship in 1949.

                A native of our archrival Hanover, Mr. Seibert played against MHS during his high school career in both football and basketball. He was fittingly honored in his senior year by selection to both all-conference teams.

                At George Washington University, Mr. Seibert played both football and basketball, receiving the honor of being named a football co-captain in his senior year.

                As a lieutenant in the Marine Corps, 1942-1945, Seibert was wounded during the Saipan engagement.

                At present Mr. Seibert is working on his Masters degree in physical education at Columbia University.

                In addition to his coaching duties, Mr. Seibert conducts the driver training course and some phys. ed. classes. As basketball coach at MHS, Mr. Seibert has brought the Maroon and Steel to a height which they had not enjoyed in the immediately previous year.

                In his initial season as baseball coach for MHS Mr. Seibert has the sincere best wishes of faculty and the students for a most successful season.

Baseball training camp starts at Memorial Park

                The first cry for baseball candidates brought all prospective catchers, pitchers, infielders,

and outfielders to Memorial Park. Mr. Don Seibert , new baseball coach replacing Mr. James Davis, had the boys sprint and jump around. Friday, March 9, was the first time the whole squad was together for practice.

                The boys that are returning this year are: Bob Sauve, Jake Jacobs, Ronnie Parks, Glenn Bricker, Marlin Sheaffer, Dan Rupp, James Browning, Vic Emel, and Dick Snare.

1951 Varsity Baseball Summary

                Under the able tutorship of their new coach, Mr. Don Seibert, the Wildcats chalked up their most successful season in years.  The Mechanicsburg nine scored more than twice the amount of runs posted by their opponents and recorded four shutouts.  In snaring ten of their thirteen encounters, the Cats tied for the West Shore League.  Only four experienced players will return in 1952.

1951 Junior Varsity

                In the season debut the Cats coached by Coach Stump were snowed under by Carlisle 12 – 3.  Jim Price led the Cats in a 4 – 1 no-hitter over New Cumberland.  The Mechanicsburg nine suffered their second loss to Carlisle 6 – 5.  New Cumberland rallied to eke out a 3 – 2 victory in the season finale.  Although the Cats won only one game, the other scores were very close; thus the MHS team’s ability could not be measured by the record.  Players included Heath, B. Enck, Alexander, Stauffer, E. Fickes, Miller, Bair, Dougherty, P. Enck, Hopkins, Fought, Wright, Cekovich, Price, and manager S. Fickes.
